Introduction to Elite Swimming

Swimming with ELITE is great fun and has many health benefits as well as educating swimmers in water safety and working towards becoming successful athletes. With this in mind ELITE have developed a fun filled program that follows the British ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) framework. Used in more than 1,000 swimming programs nationwide, as well as overseas, it is already the most successful sports program of its kind and has taught millions of children to swim.We also draw on our highly qualified coaches with innovative ideas to help your child become the best swimmer they can possibly be.

The swimmer’s journey through aquatics following the framework will result in the development of a wide range of skills. These skills are pieces of a jigsaw and when put together, they will result in a competent, confident and safe swimmer who has the foundations needed to help them reach their potential in swimming, as well as a skill base that can be developed for a wide range of water-based sports.

Why is learning to swim so important?

Swimming is a life skill and is the only sport that can save lives. It is vital that young people are given the opportunity to learn to swim for their own safety, particularly as drowning is amongst the leading causes of accidental death of children and young people in England (according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents).

The 2013 School Swimming Census conducted by the ASA and Kellogg’s found that 51% of children aged seven to eleven cannot swim 25 meters unaided, which equates to 1.1 million children who are unable to be safe in and around water.

Swimming is one of the safest and one of the most popular forms of exercise. If a child does not get the opportunity to learn to swim, they are unlikely to continue to swim as an adult, as part of a healthy lifestyle. Swimming is also a whole family activity, one we can all participate in during our free time, whilst on holiday, at the beach and at our local pool. By learning to swim and getting the essentials right at an early stage, a child is more likely to enjoy swim.

Our swimming coaches play a vital part in not only helping to ensure children can swim, but also motivating and inspiring them to continue in their development and progress along the pathway.
